Filestores Unveils Ireland’s First Firelock Vault
-The highest rated fire protection storage environment for media in the industry-
Ireland’s first Firelock vault, the highest UL rated fire protection storage environment for media available in the industry, has been installed in Filestores’ Dublin Park West Records Centre as part of a €2 million expansion launched today (19 September 2006). Capable of withstanding temperatures of 1000 degrees C, the Firelock vault now offers Filestores’ Irish customers unprecedented levels of security and fire protection for offsite computer media storage.
When exposed to extreme heat concrete vaults can create steam, which ultimately destroys magnetic or digital media. Firelock vaults are uniquely constructed from spun ceramic material capable of withstanding the highest temperatures, which prevents the creation of steam occurring. Used internationally by organisations such as the US Airforce and Disney, the precise environmental controls of Firelock can triple the longevity of media. The vault also includes protection against magnetic interference.
Cecil Ryan, managing director of Filestores said: “We are pleased to announce the launch of our new Firelock media storage vault. Digital and magnetic media requires precise levels of environmental control when stored. The Firelock vault now offers the highest fire protection available for offsite computer media storage and we are delighted to be the first Irish company to be able to offer this level of safety to our customers.”
Visiting Dublin for the launch of the Filestores facility, Hugh Smith, Vice President of Marketing at Firelock, added: “According to recent statistics, 71% of companies whose data processing facility is destroyed by fire or other disasters never recover form the loss or fail within three years. CEO’s and Board of Directors must recognise their responsibility to protect the records that reflect their good stewardship. Furthermore, they must come to understand that successfully managing the modern world of risk means that vital information must be protected and accessible at a moment’s notice. Firelock vaults are specifically designed to protect digital and magnetic media by securing the vault chamber environment.”
The Firelock vault can provide secure storage for other critical business information, such as film archives, health records and electronic research libraries.
